Driver takes ill-fated detour over incomplete I-24 bridge

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — A driver took an unconventional route Monday morning, navigating a vehicle onto the incomplete I-24 bridge construction zone.

Deputies with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 6 a.m. after construction workers reported the incident.

The vehicle allegedly ignored multiple signs, barriers, and flashing indicators warning of the bridge’s incomplete status. It then proceeded to bounce over gaps in the bridge before becoming stuck at the end of the concrete.

The driver was issued citations for:

Reckless Driving
Disregarding a Traffic Control Device
Disregarding Traffic Regulations 1st Degree
Possession of Marijuana

The incident did not affect regular traffic on the bridge. Meadows Wrecker Service and the construction crew collaborated to rescue the vehicle.
