Du Quoin parents charged with involuntary manslaughter in death of 1-year-old daughter

DU QUOIN, Ill., (KBSI) — Two Du Quoin parents are facing felony charges following the death of their 1-year-old daughter, according to Illinois State Police.

ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 7 agents arrested 28-year-old Amanda Russell and 34-year-old Michael Russell, both of Du Quoin, following an investigation into the child’s death.

Du Quoin police requested assistance from ISP on Aug. 17 for a child death investigation in the 700 block of West Park Street.

According to ISP, the child suffered severe burns over a large portion of her body and had not been taken to a medical facility for treatment.

Following the investigation, Amanda and Michael Russell were arrested.

ISP presented the case to the Perry County State’s Attorney’s Office on Aug. 18. Both were charged with involuntary manslaughter, a Class 2 felony, and endangering the life or health of a child, a Class 3 felony.

Amanda Russell was also charged with solicitation to obstruct justice, a Class A misdemeanor.

Illinois State Police said no additional information is available at this time.
