LAKE GLENDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The Duck Bay Shelter at Lake Glendale in the Shawnee National Forest is now available for reservations for the 2026 recreation season following completed reconstruction efforts.

The project was completed with help from HistoriCorps, volunteers and Shawnee National Forest employees. The site is available for group camping and can be reserved by contacting the Lake Glendale concessionaire.

Officials said the reconstruction is part of a larger $4.1 million, multi-year rehabilitation project at Lake Glendale funded through the Legacy Restoration Fund established by the Great American Outdoors Act.

Other completed improvements include masonry work at the historic Goose Bay shelter and replacement of the spillway trail bridge, the largest bridge along the lake’s hiking trail.

Additional upgrades planned for the recreation area include replacing shower and beach houses, repaving roads and installing a new restroom at Pine Point Picnic Area.

More information is available on the U.S. Forest Service website.
