Dyersburg City Schools mourns student’s death, plans grief support

DYERSBURG, Tenn., (KBSI) — Dyersburg City Schools is mourning the death of a student and plans to provide grief support when students and staff return from fall break.

In a statement, Director of Schools Kim Worley said the student died that morning. The district did not identify the student or release details about the death.

School counselors and other support team members will be available at Dyersburg Middle School after fall break to help students and staff process the loss. Families who need additional support are encouraged to contact their school office.

The district also encouraged families to talk with their children, noting that children respond to grief in different ways.

Worley asked the community to respect the privacy of the student’s family and loved ones and avoid sharing unverified information.

Dyer County Schools also expressed condolences to the student’s family, friends, classmates, teachers and others affected by the death.

“Our hearts are with the Dyersburg City Schools community as they mourn the loss of one of their students,” Dyer County Schools said in a separate statement.
