Early morning residential fire responded to by Jackson Fire Rescue

JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) – Jackson Fire Rescue crews responded to a residential fire in the 600 block of Jackson Trail shortly after 2:09 a.m.
Upon arrival, Engine 13 reported smoke showing, prompting the upgrade of the incident to a working fire.
Mutual aid was requested from Cape Girardeau Fire Department, Fruitland Fire Department, East County Fire Protection District and Gordonville Fire Protection District.
The fire was located in the basement and was quickly contained by Engine 13’s crew, who entered through an exterior door to attack the fire.
Engine 23’s crew entered through the front door to perform search operations and check for fire and smoke extension.
All occupants were safely outside upon arrival.
Two pets were also inside, and both were safely removed. One cat received oxygen due to smoke inhalation.
The basement of the structure sustained moderate fire damage, while the main level had smoke damage.
The fire originated in the basement and was ruled accidental. City power crews-controlled utilities, and overhaul was completed.
