Early morning shooting in Cape Girardeau leads to arrest of a juvenile
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Around 1:40 am on June 16, 2024, officers with the Cape Girardeau Police Department responded to the 200 block of Independence Street for shots fired.
Officers found at least one person had a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to an area hospital by their personal vehicle before officers arrived on scene.
Officers found a shooting had occurred on the corner of Themis and Spanish streets and a vehicle had been hit by a bullet.
Around 2:20 am officers located the suspect at a convenience store on the 11oo block of North Sprigg Street.
The suspect ran from officers. Officers eventually caught up to the suspect.
The suspect was identified as a juvenile and taken into custody.
Officers recovered three firearms and multiple rounds of ammunition and high-capacity magazines along with an illegal firearms switch.
The victim suffered two gunshot wounds that were non-life threatening.
