EMS Appreciation Week May 15-21

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – EMS Appreciation Week was declared by President Joe Biden and goes from May 15 to May 21.

It celebrates emergency medical service providers for all they do to help the community, in obvious way, and behind the scenes.

Emergency medical services are the first to respond to a situation, treating patients, and getting them prepared to go to the hospital.

Cape Girardeau Fire Battalion Chief Shawn M0rris says it’s a team effort.

“All of us are just a piece of the puzzle to take care of the patient mainly,” Morris said. “It’s important to get our people on the front line with our citizens.”

One way the community has shown appreciation is by giving lunches or even special gifts for the people on the front line.

Paramedic Chris Miller says community support is important for morale.

“These people really do work long hours and are there to respond at any time,” said Miller. “It’s definitely appreciated to have the community behind us to support EMTs and paramedics during this EMS Week.”
