Fall Muster at Fort D
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Fort D is hosting the Fall Muster event to help demonstrate how soldiers lived during civil war times,
Fort D volunteer Scott House says this weekend is a look into the day-to-day of soldiers who weren’t actively fighting.
“Portraying basically some of the everyday kind of life in the civil war in Cape Girardeau,” said House.
Overnight, volunteers slept like soldiers from the past and tried to relive the situations of the soldiers as closely as possible helping the community see the connection from the past to now.
“So, you get different perspectives and we try to relate what goes on here to their own experiences and to their own geography and you know to the people from Illinois did you realize this Fort was built started by troops from Illinois and most people don’t realize,” said House.
And volunteers such as Bill Eddleman invite those in the community who want to learn about history to come out and ask questions.
“But you really learn a lot more if you start talking to the living historians because they are people who have studied this, they know a lot about it,” said Eddleman.
If you are interested in visiting the fall muster at Fort D, they will be at the historic site Monday, September 5, 2022, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
