Family, friends gathered to remember young woman killed by gun violence 3 years ago

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Madi’s Kitchen is a food truck that is gaining notice from the community, not only for its good food but also for how family and friends are using it to keep its namesake’s memory alive.

“The reason why we have this kitchen is because, Madi was a food lover and we started a tradition as a family every Saturday we would get together and cook. She would find different recipes and we would cook those recipes on Saturday,” said Yameka Robinson, mother of Madison (Madi) Robinson. “Everyone knows Maddie is a lovable outgoing charming sweet quiet but outgoing person.”

Madison (Madi) Robinson was a victim of gun violence.  She was killed on August 24, 2019, just days before her 16th birthday.

To this day, the shooter has not been found.

Family and friends say the emotions left behind in the wake of her death are still indescribable.

“The feeling of losing a sibling, yet a younger one is indescribable because it’s like you you wanted to watch this person grow up your whole life. So what I’m saying, you doing a natural change of things. Who’s going to be able to leave before they leave is in make sure they made sure you were straight after and all that, but it’s ridiculous,” said Rein Robinson, brother of Madi.

Madi’s family celebrates her life through the food she loved, while continuing to fight for answers.

“Never give up the fight. No mom should have to bury their child and no mom should have to beg for justice and so whatever you have to do. Whatever step you have to go to get that justice, just go a little farther and you know eventually justice will come,” said Robinson.
