Fatal house fire under investigation in Portageville

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Authorities are investigating a fatal house fire that occurred Tuesday in the 1000 block of DeLisle Avenue.

Firefighters responded to the scene around 12:30 p.m. and found a single-story home with heavy smoke showing. Despite facing extreme conditions, crews worked to gain entry into the home and locate anyone inside.

A male victim was found deceased inside the residence. The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.

The Portageville Fire Department received mutual aid from New Madrid, Hayti and Caruthersville. Crews remained on scene until 9 p.m.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending further investigation.
