Fatal traffic crash in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – The weather is to blame for a deadly traffic accident in Jackson County deputies say.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office on Monday December 2, 2024, at 5:42 pm they received a report of a single vehicle crash on Giant City Road south of the interstate of East Pleasant Hill Road.

After arrival deputies found 66-year-old Rex Aldridge of Carbondale Illinois was driving a red 2003 Chevy Pickup truck traveling South on Giant City Road.

The vehicle crossed a bridge that was covered in ice due to road conditions.

The vehicle then slid off the roadway into a ditch and Aldridge was ejected from the vehicle.

Aldridge was taken to an area hospital by Jackson County Ambulance Service where he later died as a result of his injuries.
