Several spend Father’s Day at Beggs Family Farm

SIKESTON, Mo. (KBSI) – Donnie Beggs, owner of Beggs Family Farm, says this farm is a special place to him and his family.

“This is what we put our passion into, and so I enjoy getting to come I enjoy getting to come to work every day and do this,” he said.

Donnie’s son, Bryce, said working with family isn’t always sunshine and…sunflowers.

“It’s a little different of an environment to work with your family because you’re a lot closer and maybe can argue a lot more than you would with your typical boss,” he said.

But as much as they argue, Bryce said they still enjoy working together, and Donnie said providing enjoyment for other families makes all the work worth it.

“When you see the families come out, and they get to interact together, the kids laughing and having a good time, and the parents responding to that, and when we have big crowds, people feed off of each other, and just the joy that we can give to somebody else, that’s what makes it all worthwhile,” he said.

This weekend marks the first of the Spring into Summer Festival at Beggs, and on this Father’s Day, the farm provided free admission to all fathers, fathers like Spencer Ayers of Sikeston, who spent the day at the farm with his six- and three-year-old daughters.

“They’re growing way too quick, so I’m hanging on to every moment when they’re little and still want to play and do stuff,” he said.

If you weren’t able to make it out to the farm this weekend, or just want to come back, the Spring into Summer Festival continues next weekend. It will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 24 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 25.
