Fire at SEMO Port Authority industrial facility contained to fourth floor

SCOTT CITY, Mo., (KBSI) – Firefighters from several departments responded to a commercial structure fire Tuesday morning at an industrial manufacturing facility in the SEMO Port Authority outside Scott City.
The Scott City Fire Department was dispatched to the 200 block of River Road around 8:29 a.m. Aug. 11. The call was upgraded to a working fire after crews were told smoke was visible from the area.
When firefighters arrived, employees were evacuating the facility and a fire was burning on the fourth floor.
Firefighters accessed the fourth floor using an exterior stairwell and established a water supply using an aerial ladder. Crews then began an offensive attack on the fire.
Mutual aid was provided by the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, NBC Fire Protection District, Chaffee Fire Department, Benton Fire Department and Gordonville Fire Protection District. Additional crews from the Jackson and Cape Girardeau fire departments were later requested because of high temperatures and the extensive overhaul required.
Firefighters dismantled portions of equipment and ductwork while working to fully extinguish the fire. The flames were contained to the fourth floor.
No injuries were reported.
Investigators determined the fire originated in hopper and duct piping on the fourth floor, according to Scott City Fire Chief Shawn Jackson.
Once overhaul operations were completed, the facility was turned back over to maintenance personnel.
North Scott County Ambulance District provided EMS standby during the response.
