CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Firefighters contained a structure fire late Sunday night at a home on South Hanover Street, according to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department.
Crews responded around 11:01 p.m. March 22 to 405 S. Hanover St., where they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the structure. The incident was upgraded to a working fire, prompting additional mutual aid coverage for city stations.
Firefighters conducted a search and confirmed all occupants were out of the home. Crews then launched an aggressive attack, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby structures despite winds of about 20 mph.
Officials said the fire was primarily confined to the rear exterior and attic. An outbuilding on the property also sustained damage.
The fire originated in the rear porch or deck area and was brought under control in about 35 minutes with assistance from the Jackson and Gordonville fire departments.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
