Fire damages house on South Ellis Street

CAPE GIRARDEAU Mo. (KBSI) – Officials responded to reports of a fire on January 6th around 6:30 p.m.

Battalion Chief Shawn Morris says, “We got reports of a fire on the 2nd floor and possible people trapped.”

Cape Girardeau Fire Department extinguished the fire located at the southern half of the duplex on 708 S. Ellis.

The tenant of the residence was not home at the time of the fire.

“The search was done, and we found that no one was home and later we did find her, she showed up to the scene after the fact.” Morris added.

Investigation is still ongoing.
