Firefighters battle late night fire in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Cape Girardeau firefighters battled a house fire late Sunday night on Jewel Drive.

Cape Girardeau Fire Department was dispatched to 2620 Jewel Drive at 11 p.m. on March 19.

The residents of the house called 911. They were outside the home with firefighters arrived.

The first fire unit on scene could see heavy smoke coming from the house.

Crews entered the house and found that the fire was in the attic. The crews made a quick knockdown of the fire which was contained to the attic, according to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department.

The fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes. Firefighters determined the fire was electrical in nature. The fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damage.

Cape Girardeau Fire Department received mutual aid from Cape County Private Ambulance, Jackson Fire Rescue, Scott City Fire Department, East County Fire Protection District and Fruitland Area Fire Protection District.
