Firefighters battle two fires at same location in Massac County

MASSAC COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – Firefighters battled two fires at the same location in Massac County on Tuesday.

Massac County and Brookport firefighters responded to a brush fire on Hohman Lake.

When they arrived, they saw a fire spreading to a porch and under a house. The fire was also spreading to the garage and a propane tank.

Firefighters controlled the fire and put of the fire at the house and porch before major damage was incurred.

Fire crews left the home around 4:18 p.m.

At 9:20 p.m., the homeowner called Massac County dispatch and said he had a fire inside his home.

Firefighters found asmall fire in the wall of the house. They put out the fire. Firefighters say it looked to have started in the electrical outlet of the house. They found an electrical outlet under the house was damaged during the first fire. They believe this caused the electrical outlet to short out and caused a fire in the wall of the house.

The fire was contained to the area of origin with minimal damage to the house.
