CAMPBELL, Mo., (KBSI) — The Campbell Volunteer Fire Department responded Wednesday afternoon to a motorhome fire with entrapment behind a local business.
When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the front and roof of the vehicle. The owner told firefighters that a juvenile and a dog were trapped inside.
Firefighters entered through the rear of the motorhome while beginning to extinguish the fire. Firefighter Dawson Weeks went in through a rear window, located the juvenile and, with assistance from other firefighters, extricated the child. Crews provided first aid at a nearby business while waiting for Medic One Ambulance.
Firefighters continued working to put out the blaze while assisting the victim. A landing zone was set up for a medical helicopter. The juvenile was taken by ambulance to the landing zone and then flown to a Memphis hospital by Survival Flight.
The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the incident and reported no suspicion of foul play. No additional information will be released at this time.
The juvenile’s father granted permission for the release of this information and accompanying photos.
