Firefighters rescue person suffering medical emergency in tree

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Firefighters used ladders, a harness and a rope system Sunday evening to rescue a person who suffered a medical emergency while in a tree.

Portageville Fire and Rescue responded around 7:45 p.m. to the 400 block of East Fourth Street.

Officials said the person had climbed the tree to retrieve an item but became unable to climb down safely after experiencing the medical emergency.

Firefighters secured the person in a rescue harness and lowered them to the ground. An ambulance crew then transported the patient to a nearby hospital.

The person’s condition was not immediately available.
