Firefighters respond to fire at Cape Girardeau storage facility

CAPE GIRARDEAU Mo. (KBSI) – Firefighters responded to a fire at Red Dot Storage Facility at approximately 5:15 a.m. on February 17.

Battalion Chief, Brad Dillow, says, “We had to make access through the security gate, at that point we noticed we had heavy smoke coming from about the middle part of the building area.”

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within a half an hour, the fire was under control and the team was able to salvage materials and personal belongings.

According to Dillow, no one was injured at the time of the fire. However, there was a cat located inside of the container where the fire was.

The blaze is still under investigation, but the Chief reminds storage users to be careful of what they store into containers.

“Make sure there’s no type of accelerants or anything like that- heat sources that a fire can start.” Said Dillow.
