2 children rescued from house fire in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Two children were rescued from a house fire Tuesday morning in Cape Girardeau.

Firefighters were dispatched for a fire at a home on Henderson Ave. at 7:15 a.m. Firefighters found heavy smoke from the home when they arrived.

Two children were on the front porch roof when firefighters arrived and they were rescued to safety.

The ladder company was returning from a fire alarm and was able to respond.

The fire engine was able to respond from the headquarters. Firefighters took a fire hose to the back of the home and entered the walkout basement and found heavy fire. Crews were able to put that fire out. Other crews contained the fire that extended to a small area on the first floor.

“We actually had a unit coming back from a call so they were very quick to arrive on scene,” said Cape Girardeau Fire Chief Randy Morris, Jr. “When they arrived on scene, they had heavy smoke showing from just about everywhere in the house.”

No word on any injuries.
