First human case of H5 Bird Flu confirmed in Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KBSI)- The CDC has confirmed a human case of H5 bird flu in Missouri, the first in the state.
The patient, an adult with underlying health conditions, was hospitalized on August 22 and has since recovered.
The risk of transmission to the general public remains low.
The case was detected through Missouri’s flu surveillance program, and additional testing is underway at the CDC.
This is the 15th human case of H5 reported in the US since 2022.
Missouri health officials continue to monitor flu activity, but no unusual activity has been detected.
