JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI)— Sheriff Dave Marshak announced charges Monday in a shooting involving two semi-truck drivers traveling on Interstate 55.

Michel Quintana-Betancourt, 46, of Miami, Fla., is charged with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action after allegedly shooting another driver during a traffic dispute.

Deputies responded at 8:03 a.m. after the victim called 911 to report being shot. When deputies and detectives arrived, they requested EMS and took Quintana-Betancourt into custody without incident.

According to investigators, Quintana-Betancourt fired an AR-15–style rifle from the cab of his truck at the victim’s vehicle as both traveled northbound on I-55 between Pevely and Barnhart. The victim was struck once and taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Quintana-Betancourt is being held at the Jefferson County Jail without bond.

Sheriff’s officials thanked Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney Trisha Stefanski’s office for its quick action in filing charges.
