Former Cape County Coroner found guilty

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — Wavis Jordan, the former Cape Girardeau County coroner, has been convicted of falsifying death certificates and stealing from a deceased person.

Jordan was found guilty on March 6 of three felony counts of providing false information to vital records and one misdemeanor count of stealing.

The verdict followed a two-day bench trial.

Prosecutors with the Missouri State Attorney General’s Office alleged that Jordan knowingly made false statements on three death certificates during his time as coroner.

He was also accused of taking money from a dead man’s wallet during a welfare check.

Jordan’s sentencing is set for April 30. His bond remains unchanged.
