Former Cape Girardeau Councilmen makes first court appearance

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Former Cape Girardeau Councilmen Rhettney Pierce made his first court appearance today.
Today, Monday, September 30, 2024 at 1 pm was Pierces initial appearance date.
Pierce is being charged with drug trafficking in the second degree and two accounts of unlawful possession of a firearm.
Pierce announced his resignation from the Cape Girardeau City Council on September 28, 2024 after being arrested for drug trafficking.
According to documents Pierce is accused of going to an unnamed hotel on Thursday, September 26 and buying methamphetamine. Police arrested Pierce immediately after he left the hotel room and reported finding more than 122 grams of meth in his possession.
Pierce’s bond was set at $50,000 cash only and he bonded out on Friday.
The city council will fill the Ward 5 seat at the next meeting on Monday, October 7.
