Former City Councilman now faces federal charges
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Former City Councilman Rhettney Pierce is facing serious charges after his arrest by the Cape Girardeau Sheriff’s Office last Thursday, September 26, 2024.
Pierce has been charged with three felonies: Trafficking in the Second Degree, a Class B felony, and two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, classified as Class C felonies.
Additionally, Pierce faces two federal charges: Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and Unlawful Use of a Controlled Substance in Possession of a Firearm, following a federal arraignment on October 3, 2024, where he pleaded not guilty.
Pierce is currently in federal custody, with no bond set.
The City of Cape Girardeau is moving swiftly to fill the vacant position, with applications due by 3 p.m. today, October 4.
A decision on Pierce’s replacement is expected by Monday, October 7.
