Former DPS officer suspected of burglary, stealing from Southeast Missouri State University

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – On May 1, 2025, Southeast Missouri State University Department of Public Safety (SEMO DPS) reported missing camera equipment valued at approximately $18,500.

An investigation revealed an adult male suspect entered a locked door on May 8, 2025, and April 10, 2025, using a key and wearing a mask.

The suspect was identified as Jason Holt, a former SEMO DPS officer, through surveillance footage and eyewitness recognition.

Further investigation revealed Holt had access to the building’s keys and was employed at the location after-hours on both occasions.

Holt was interviewed by investigators on May 14, 2025, and cooperated fully.

A Canon 5D Mark IV digital camera was recovered from Hurricane Creek.

Holt is suspected of committing the burglaries, in part, as retaliation for being terminated from the department.
