Fort D’s Memorial Day Reenactment

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Local re-enactors will honor the memory of veterans past and present during the Memorial holiday.

Memorial Day honors the memory of U. S. soldiers who have died in military service.

Forte D coordinators and volunteers did just that by hosting these reenactment events.

Scott House, Forte D coordinator says this much of what they do is in honor of our veterans past and present and that was the point of this particular civil war reenactment.

“We want to remind everybody of what happened in America when people lost their sense and 600,000 men died as a result,” said House.

And this event isn’t just to tell the war’s story but to give light to the ways of living of the army in the past.

“Most of the time the army was not fighting so much as it was living so we have demonstrations inside of camp life and of engineering activities,” said House.

Scott’s main goal is for the community to help to keep history alive.

“We just love for people to come out and help keep history alive,” said House.

This event will continue Monday, May 30, 2022, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm at Fort D Historic Site.
