Fourth annual Pucks 4 Paws held in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Sunday, the Fourth Annual Pucks 4 Paws was held at the A C Brase Arena Building in Cape Girardeau to help pets find lovable homes for their animals.

The event was to help Southeast Missouri Pets (formerly Humane Society of Southeast Missouri) and the Bissel Pet Foundation empty the shelters. Cape Area Hockey (CAH), a local roller hockey group consisting of members from a wide range age and skills, played a 4-team roller hockey tournament.

Attendees could adopt a pet for a $25 application fee instead of the normal higher price.

Rob Kearns, the commissioner of Cape Area Hockey, said that the purpose of Pucks 4 Paws is to raise awareness for the shelter.

“Trying to get some animals adopted raising awareness for the shelter raising trying to increase the reach of the shelter into the community,” said Kearns.

The event started four years ago and raised about $13,000 with last year being its best year and with a variety of different kinds of dogs to show off.

For hockey fans and animal lovers Pucks 4 Paws is a great even. For anyone in between, this is an event with lots of fun.

Kelley McGowan, a volunteer, said that  Pucks 4 Paws is a fun event with lots to do.

“This event is kind of fun to watch and it’s great because you get to meet lots of people,” McGowan said. “They have some raffles they’ve got BBQ out here, and playing with puppies you can’t beat that can you.”
