FOX23 heads to local schools to drop off some free school supplies

This week FOX23 is heading to local schools in the viewing area to help distribute school supplies donated by you.
Wednesday we took hundreds of items you helped us collect during the FOX23 school Supply Drive.
At Blanchard we got a chance to meet sisters Nola and Dayton Palmer.
We asked Nola, to tell us her favorite thing about school, she said quickly: “recess.”
She also explained she liked art, while sister Dayton said she enjoyed, Math.
“My favorite subject is probably math.” She says the reason is, “because I get to write and solve problems.”
Principal Barbara Kohlfeld says the supplies will go a long way.
“We have always been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of the people of Cape Girardeau, if we ever need anything for these students the answer is always yes,” said Dr. Barbara Kohlfeld.
We also traveled to Jefferson Elementary, dropping off hundreds more items.
That’s where I met Journey Burns.
“My favorite subject is Reading,” said Journey. “It is fun to be here because you can color and do activities.”
We brought students at Jefferson lots of crayons for coloring. Principal Amber Walker says the teachers and students are so grateful.
“Having enough school supplies that we don’t have to worry about anything is a relief, our community shows up and showers us with love and support,” said Walker.
“Our students are taken care of by not just our district, they do a wonderful job but also our community.”
