Fredericktown Fire Department incident update

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo., (KBSI)- As of 4:00 pm on November 1, 2024, the Fredericktown Fire Department remains on scene at the Critical Mineral Recovery facility fire on Highway OO.

Contracted industrial firefighters are working to extinguish remaining smoldering material, with local, state and federal officials ensuring safety and containment.

The EPA Region 7 conducts 24-hour air monitoring for volatile organic compounds and other pollutants.

One exceedance of particulate matter detected in the evacuation zone on October 30, but none since schools are closed November 1 as precaution due to the odor.

The community is advised to keep windows closed and avoid smoke plumes.

The EPA continues to coordinate with local agencies, Missouri Department of Natural Resources and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
