Fredericktown Senior Center faces uncertain future amid funding challenges

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo., (KBSI) — The Fredericktown Senior Center, a vital hub for the local elderly community, is facing an uncertain future due to funding issues.
Beginning March 14, 2025, the center will reduce its operating hours to three days a week, closing on Mondays and Fridays.
The center provides essential services, including meals and social events, which help combat loneliness and isolation among seniors.
The reduced hours will limit access to these programs and diminish the community spirit that has thrived within the center.
To generate funds, the center is launching a fundraising initiative, featuring “Catfish Fridays” for $12 per plate.
While this effort will provide some income, the center’s long-term survival remains uncertain.
The center faces a critical juncture in two to three months, when it must decide whether to continue operating on a limited schedule, revert to a full five-day schedule or consider closing due to persistent funding challenges.
Community support is crucial during this time.
The center appreciates all donations and assistance, as every contribution can make a significant difference.
A closure would not only eliminate critical resources but also leave seniors without a vital source of comfort, care and connection.
