Freezing Temperatures and how to save on your electricity bill
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo (KBSI)- Freezing temperatures have people turning up the heat in their homes, but what are some of the best ways to save that energy?
“With a smart thermostat it has an eco-setting, so it is set up and designed to help you save your energy usage of course which ultimately saves on your energy costs.” Stephanie Robinson is with Ameren Missouri; she says having a smart thermostat can be the best way to keep those energy costs down.
Robinson says, “Sometimes as we’re rushing throughout the day we may leave home and forget to turn our thermostats down, because you can operate the smart thermostat by way of your smart phone, you can change that temperature on your thermostat right there on your smartphone.”
Kyle Yamnitz is the Operations Manager for Serv-Pro of Southeast Missouri he says a lot of people try to heat their homes with space heaters, while this is a solution, it’s not the best at conserving energy or saving money.
Yamnitz says, “They’re costing homeowners actually quite a bit of money.”
Yamnitz states that homeowners should leave space heaters out of the equation when trying to conserve energy and money.
Using a heater in a small space won’t hurt much, and can help warm that area fairly quickly, but using them solely to heat a home is not efficient.
Yamnitz adds, “A lot of people will run them in conjunction with, cause maybe their original house unit is not efficient enough or strong enough to do what they need to do.”
When using a space heater for your home remember to keep them away from anything flammable and keep watch over them.
