Friends search for 32-year-old man missing from Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A missing persons alert has been sent out to the public after Cape Girardeau Police Department says it was reported that a man didn’t show up to work, prompting concern.

The man now has not been seen or heard from in several days.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department is investigating after friends and family say 32-year-old Nathaniel Hubert checked into Holiday Inn Express in Cape Girardeau but never checked out.

Scott MacDonald is Nates best friend. Nate was his best man for his wedding and his college roommate.

According to reports Hubert had been staying in Cape since June 10 for his job, he works for FEMA. On June 21 his coworkers say he never showed up for work.

MacDonald, coworkers and his parents all say this is not normal behavior for him.   

“Nate is an adventurer, he’s an Eagle Scout, he’s an experienced hiker, he’s climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, he’s climbed Machu Picchu in Peru, he’s not the kind of guy to just go out on a whim and he’s a very careful person” says MacDonald.

All of Nates personal belongings were still in his hotel room, and his rental vehicle a 2025 silver Nissan Versa was spotted in Jackson Missouri at 10:30 pm on June 21 heading West bound on Route 72, but the driver of the vehicle wasn’t visible.  

“We’ve heard his personal phone was dead as of Saturday morning. His work phone was pinged somewhere along Kingshighway here in Cape Girardeau around 2 pm on Saturday. We don’t know if his phone was on him. It could have just been that his phone was in his car, but we are hoping that the Cape Girardeau police are able to find out more information about where his phone was” says MacDonald.

Macdonald shares that they originally thought Nate may have gone on a hike at the Trail of Tears State Park, but they aren’t so sure now, as a small search was conducted by friends and family and nothing was found.

MacDonald hung flyers around Cape and Jackson and has started a public Facebook page called Find Nate Hubert.
