Gas prices jump nine cents in Missouri, 30 cents in Cape Girardeau compared to last week
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The statewide gas price average in Missouri is $3.44 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Missouri Weekend Gas Watch.
This price is nine cents more compared to this day last week.
In Cape Girardeau, prices increased by an average of 30 cents from this time last week, and in Carbondale-Marion, that increase is 28 cents.
AAA Public Affairs Specialist Nick Chabarria said to expect fluctuating gas prices for the foreseeable future.
“We are still in a very volatile oil and gas market,” he said. “We’ve really seen both ends of the spectrum in the last couple years as far as oil and gas go. At the start of the pandemic, we of course saw record low prices. We’ve seen record high prices this year, so it’s still a very volatile market. My best advice for drivers we can give is to expect prices to fluctuate as we head toward the end of the year.”
Tight supplies, climbing demand and OPEC+’s announcement to cutback output by 2 million barrels per day are contributing factors to the increase.
Cape Girardeau’s average price per gallon remains one cent below the state average at $3.43.
