GORDONVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — The Gordonville Fire Protection District is recognizing three local high school students participating in its Junior Firefighter Program.

The department currently has three junior firefighters — Brown, Farmer and Surface — ages 16 to 18, who are enrolled in area high schools and actively training with the district.

Officials said the program is limited to no more than five participants at a time to ensure each junior firefighter receives focused training, mentorship and hands-on experience.

Participants train alongside department members, assist with station and district responsibilities, and complete probationary task books in preparation for potential full membership after graduation.

The structured program allows students to gain experience in the fire service while maintaining academic priorities. Junior firefighters must meet minimum grade requirements and follow a curfew to help balance school, family and service commitments.

The district said the program is designed to provide leadership development and real-world experience for those interested in serving their community.

Officials encouraged those interested in learning more about the Junior Firefighter Program to contact the department for additional information.
