IL Governor JB Pritzker sworn-in for second term
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (KBSI) – Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker was sworn into office Monday for his second term.
The democratic politician won his second term after defeating Illinois state Senator Darren Bailey in the general election on November 8, 2022.
After he was sworn-in, Pritzker thanked his fellow Illinois legislators and family.
He also took a look back at his accomplishments throughout his first term as governor and reflected on the difficulties of being a leader during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The difficult thing about governing through unprecedented times is that it’s your job to set the precedent, to find a path even when none appears to exist, to lift up the front line heroes the essential workers on whom we all rely, to make the hard decisions, to protect those doing the very hard work of keeping us all together,” Pritzker said.
One of the biggest challenges Pritzker faced in the legislature was passing sweeping criminal justice reform in the form of the controversial SAFE-T act.
For now, the act is on hold while the Illinois supreme court conducts a review.
