MAYFIELD, Ky., (KBSI) — Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden extended condolences to the family and friends of 14-year-old Dakarai Saxton, who passed away early Wednesday morning after a courageous battle with cancer.
On Tuesday, October 28, Dakarai returned home from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by ambulance. Area first responders escorted him home after reaching the Graves County line, where classmates and friends lined the street to welcome him.
“I was standing at the rear of the ambulance as he was being brought out, and Dakarai gave me a thumbs up,” Sheriff Hayden said. “What a brave young man he was.”
Approximately 11 hours later, Dakarai passed away at home with his family by his side.
“Our prayers go out to all of his friends and family,” Hayden said on behalf of the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.
Arrangements are under the care of Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield and will be announced upon completion.
