JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) — The Green Bear Project will host its fifth annual “A Day in the Park with Green Bear” event April 25 at Cape County Park South to raise awareness for National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The free event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Organizers said the event is designed to educate families about child abuse prevention while providing activities for children and community members.

The Green Bear Project, founded in 2001, focuses on educating children and families about abuse prevention.

April is recognized nationally as Child Abuse Prevention Month, highlighting efforts to strengthen families and prevent abuse and neglect.

Event organizers said a variety of local organizations will participate, including the Safe House of Southeast Missouri, Cape Girardeau Public Library, Discovery Playhouse, Girl Scouts, SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence, local fire and police departments and other community groups.

Families attending can expect free activities, including snow cones, hot dogs and a coloring contest. Organizers said more than 500 people attended last year’s event.

Officials said the event aims to promote awareness while providing a fun, family-friendly environment for the community.
