Harrisburg High School asks parents for help following repeated restroom vandalism

HARRISBURG, Ill., (KBSI) — Harrisburg High School officials are asking parents and families for help following repeated incidents of vandalism in student restrooms throughout the school year.

In a message shared with families, school officials said intentional damage has forced some restrooms to temporarily close, causing disruptions for students and staff.

According to the school, the damage includes stall doors being broken off their hinges and restroom partitions being damaged or destroyed.

Officials also reported that students have flushed items such as tennis shoes, energy drink cans, soda bottles and vaping devices down toilets, causing significant plumbing problems.

In some cases, maintenance crews have had to remove toilets to retrieve objects lodged in sewer lines.

School officials said the incidents have resulted in unnecessary repair costs and diverted resources from other student needs.

The school is encouraging parents to speak with their children about respecting school property, making responsible decisions and understanding the consequences of vandalism.

Students with information about the incidents are encouraged to report it to a trusted school administrator.

Officials said they hope to encourage students to take pride in their school and help prevent further damage.
