Hayti man charged with assault after confrontation with officers

HAYTI, Mo., (KBSI) — A 27-year-old Hayti man is facing multiple felony charges, including first-degree assault, after a confrontation with officers on Feb. 11.

According to Chief David Maclin, Austin A. Morgan was wanted on outstanding warrants for stealing and counterfeiting when officers encountered him at a local business.

Morgan allegedly resisted arrest fought officers and led them on a short foot pursuit.

He was tased twice but continued to resist before being taken into custody.

Morgan was taken to a hospital for possible drug use and later transported to the Pemiscot County Justice Center, where he is being held without bond.

On Feb. 12, the Pemiscot County Prosecutor’s Office formally charged Morgan with first-degree assault, a Class B felony.

Additional charges are pending the conclusion of the investigation.
