Hayti police warn of increase in vehicle break-ins, thefts

HAYTI, Mo., (KBSI) — The Hayti Police Department is urging residents to take precautions following a significant increase in reports of vehicle break-ins, vehicle thefts and firearms stolen from unsecured vehicles.

Police are asking residents to lock their vehicles, remove their keys and avoid leaving firearms, wallets, purses, cash, electronics or other valuables inside. Drivers should also park in well-lit areas when possible and make sure their vehicles are secured before walking away.

The department said residents may notice an increased police presence throughout Hayti during overnight hours. Officers will conduct proactive patrols, and property checks to deter criminal activity.
