Here’s what some people in Cape Girardeau have to say about voting

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – More than 300,000 Missourians have cast their ballots early, according to data from the University of Florida’s election lab. Fox 23 went to Cape Girardeau Riverfront park to find people who have and have not voted.

We asked people if they voted early or if they’re planning to vote.

“Probably not,” David Campbell said.

“I have already voted. I took advantage of the early voting, actually,” Nicki Biediger said.

“I have never voted in a presidential election,” Levi Kinnard said.

“I have not voted. I will be going out to vote Tuesday morning,” Tina Roberts said.

Campbell says he grew up in a home that wasn’t political, and doesn’t want to be defined by political affiliations.

“We don’t judge like, religion or political,” Campbell said. “We don’t – not in that kind of household I grew up in.”

Biediger said she feels this election has been more contentious.

“It’s very nerve-wracking,” Biediger said. “There’s a lot more on the line than normal. I always participate in voting and feel very strongly about it, but I definitely was very encouraged to get out – get my vote placed at this election.”

Kinnard also said this election feels different.

“It’s much more emotionally charged,” Kinnard said.

Kinnard says he focuses on his family and bettering himself, saying politics isn’t beneficial to his life.

“I’ve got one brother that’s definitely hardcore republican and then I’ve got my mother, father and another brother that are hardcore democrats,” Kinnard said, “and I think it’s put a wedge in the family.”

Tina Roberts plans to vote on election day.

“I just think it’s very important for us all to get out and vote this year. I think it’s a privilege to be able to vote,” Roberts said. “I feel like, when it’s over and done, we’ll move forward and hopefully the country will be in the right direction.

Election day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024. In Cape Girardeau County, election polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
