Herrin firefighters extinguish house fire, rescue family pets

HERRIN, Ill., (KBSI) — Firefighters responded to a residential fire Tuesday afternoon, extinguishing the blaze and rescuing several family pets.

The Herrin Fire Department was toned out to the scene at approximately 1:40 p.m. and found the yard and attic of the residence on fire. A general alarm was requested, bringing in additional personnel and an engine company from the Marion Fire Department.

Crews made a quick interior attack and extinguished the fire. A search of the residence determined that no one was inside, but three dogs, a bird and a bearded dragon were rescued.

Assistance was provided by Marion Fire Department, United Medical Response, Herrin Police Department and others.
