Herrin man charged with murder after deadly shooting

HERRIN, Ill. (KBSI) – A Herrin man faces a first-degree murder charge after a deadly shooting in Herrin on July 13.

Tyler Mezo, 38, of Herrin faces a charge of first-degree murder (Class M Felony).

llinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 7 arrested Mezo.

ISP was requested by the Herrin Police Department on July 13 to conduct a death investigation at a home in the 3100 block of Weaver Road in Herrin.

A woman was found dead at the home with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police identified Mezo as the shooter and arrested.

ISP presented the case to the Williamson County State’s Attorney’s Office for official charges to be filed on July 14.

Mezo was being held at the Williamson County Jail pending his first court appearance.

ISP DCI agents were assisted by the Herrin Police Department, ISP Troop 10 patrol officers and ISP Crime Scene Services.
