Herrin police investigating series of vehicle and residential burglaries

HERRIN, Ill., (KBSI) – The Herrin Police Department is investigating multiple reports of vehicle and residential burglaries following an incident early Thursday morning in which three suspects attempted to break into a vehicle.

Around the early morning hours of Oct. 30, officers responded to the 1900 block of West Adams Street after a homeowner reported seeing three individuals trying to enter a vehicle.

When the resident went outside, the suspects fled, leaving behind a truck in the roadway. The vehicle was later determined to have been stolen from a home on George Street, processed by police, and returned to its owner.

A K-9 track from the scene led officers to a residence in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street, but no suspects were located.

Since the initial incident, police have received several additional reports of vehicle and home burglaries throughout Herrin. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are asking for the public’s assistance.

Residents are urged to lock vehicles and homes, avoid leaving valuables in cars, and review any available surveillance footage.
