Herrin police respond after report of person firing weapon

HERRIN, Ill. (KBSI) – Residents in Herrin were encouraged to stay clear of a two block area after police responded to a report of a person firing a weapon Thursday night.
Herrin police responded to a report of a disturbance in the 600 block of S. 12th Street in Herrin at 6:57 p.m. on Thursday, April 25.
A 28-year-old Herrin man had retreated into a home at 620 S. 12th St. in Herrin after allegedly discharging a firearm.
No injuries or property damage have been reported.
The Herrin Police Department was assisted by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Energy Police Department, Carterville Police Department, Johnston City Police Department, Marion Police Department, Herrin Fire Department, United EMS and the Williamson County Crisis Negotiation Team.
Law enforcement secured a two block perimeter around the scene.
Hostage/crisis negotiators worked to bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion.
“The Herrin Police Department is working hard with Public Safety Partners to ensure the safety of Herrin Residents while we attempt to resolve this tense and rapidly evolving situation peacefully,” said Herrin Police Chief David Dorris.
