HERRIN, Ill., (KBSI) — A Herrin woman was arrested early Wednesday after deputies discovered methamphetamine during a traffic stop, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they stopped a vehicle traveling north on 23rd Street in Herrin at about 1:45 a.m. for a traffic violation. While deputies conducted the stop, a Herrin Police Department K-9 unit arrived and performed a free-air sniff around the vehicle.

K-9 Tyr alerted to the presence of narcotics, prompting a probable cause search. Deputies found a purse on the passenger-side floorboard containing methamphetamine.

The passenger, identified as Crystal R. Pulliam, was taken into custody without incident. The driver, Bryan A. Pulliam, was cited for failure to signal and operating an uninsured vehicle and released at the scene.

At the Williamson County Jail, before clearing the security screening, Crystal Pulliam reportedly admitted the methamphetamine was hers and revealed she had an additional bag concealed on her person. A female correctional officer recovered the contraband in a private area.

Pulliam was charged with possession of methamphetamine under 720 ILCS 646/60, a Class 2 felony, and was remanded to the custody of the Williamson County Jail.

The sheriff’s office thanked the Herrin Police Department and Williamson County State’s Attorney Ted Hampson for their assistance.
