Hickman County Sheriff’s Office warns residents about scam messages impersonating deputies

HICKMAN COUNTY, (KBSI) – The Hickman County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about scam calls, texts, emails and Facebook messages from people falsely claiming to represent the sheriff’s office.
Officials said the scammers tell victims they have committed a crime, owe money or face jail time. The sheriff’s office said it does not contact people in that manner and has not hired any new deputies with unfamiliar names.
Authorities said deputies will deliver court paperwork in person if contact is necessary. Residents are urged not to respond to the messages, provide personal information or send money.
Anyone unsure whether a message is legitimate is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office or the clerk’s office directly.
