High school students encouraged to apply for expenses paid Youth Day and Youth Tour

(KBSI) – Area high school students are encouraged to apply for an all-expenses paid Youth Day and Youth Tour in Washington D.C.

Applications are now open for the annual Youth Day to Springfield and Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.

Each year, Egyptian Electric Cooperative Association sponsors at least two area high school students for the unique opportunity to tour historical and cultural sites, meet with lawmakers, and witness state government in action.

High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors attending a public or private high school within the Egyptian Electric Cooperative service territory or otherwise a consumer-member of the cooperative are eligible to apply.

School districts within EECA territory include Marissa, Sparta, DuQuoin, Chester, Pinckneyville, Murphysboro, Elverado, Trico, Carbondale, Steeleville, Red Bud, and Carterville.

Selected students from Youth Day will have the opportunity to represent EECA on an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. during Youth Tour.

This experience allows

Young leaders will gain insights into the historical and political landscape of the nation’s capital while fostering a deeper understanding of government through meetings with elected officials.

The application deadline is February 2.

The application form includes completing short summaries of the student’s school activities, civic activities, and other accomplishments, plus an essay related to cooperatives and/or the local community.

Youth Day to Springfield is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, March 20. Youth Tour will be held June 14-21, 2024 in Washington D.C.
